New Caledonia's "Association Défi Santé", which aims at promoting health through sport, has been organising a highly successful sportive trek for 18 years.

This two day trek across New Caledonia's mountain range takes place every year on the first weekend of July. This year, it will take place on the 3rd and 4th of July 2010.

This challenging physical event gives participants the opportunity to discover not only life in the most remote "Kanak" (local Melanesian) tribes but also New caledonia's unique fauna and wild life plus its wonderful landscapes and amazing lagoon, the largest in the world.

Should you wish to take up the challenge and participate in a true adventure, you could choose one of the following options, only for teams of three members:

1. "Transcal":
  • Men/women teams
  • Two day trek 3rd and 4th July
  • About 20 miles first day and 15 miles second day
  • Minimum age 16 (for 16 to 18 year old boys and girls, a parent's written approval is compulsory).

2. "Trans unisexe":
  • Same gender teams (three members unisex)
  • Two day trek (3rd and 4th July)
  • About 20 miles first day and 15 miles second day
  • Reserved to high level sportsmen/women 3rd and 4th July n / starts team after team, different classifications
  • Minimum age: 16 (for 16- to 18 year old boys and girls, a parent's written approval is compulsory)

3. "Trans découverte":

  • Men/women teams (three members)
  • One day trek ( July, 4th)
  • About 15 miles
  • Minimum age: 16 (for boys and girls under 18, a parent's approval is compulsory)

4. "Trans découverte unisexe"

  • Men/women teams (three members of the same gender)
  • One day trek ( July, 4th)
  • About 20 miles
  • Minimum age: 16 (for boys and girls under 18, a parent's approval is compulsory)

5. Trans juniors

*    Boys/girls teams between 14 and 18 years old
*    One day trek (july, Sunday, 4tth )
*    About 9 miles
*    A parent's approval is compulsory


6. Trans juniors Unisex

*    Same gender teams (3 members)  between 14 and 18
*    One day trek (july, Sunday, 4tth )
*    About 9 miles
*    A parent's approval is compulsory

All participants are requested:

¨ To have their fitness level checked by a General Practitioner.
¨      To have a personal insurance
¨      To take with them a small tent to spend the night in and a small personal emergency kit.


A complete application form will soon be available (the amount to be paid for each participant will appear on that document as well).

Should many members from Australia, New Zealand, Vanuatu, Japan, Tahiti, be interested in that trek, we might be able to study a package trip with local travel agencies.
