Sporting Events
NC 2011
"More than 5000 athletes and officials , 22 Oceania countries, 28 sports, 2 weeks of competition and more than 150 000 spectators! From August 27th to September 10th 2011, the whole country will breathe to the rhythm of the XIVth Pacific Games, the biggest sport event in the Pacific Islands."

Hiking track of the Great South
The Grande Randonnée N°1 track, also known as the Transprovinciale Sud allows hikers to approach New Caledonia from unique angles and to have access to areas which can only be reached on foot. The first section of the track, departs from Prony (in the far south of the mainland) and goes as far as the Parc de la Rivière Bleue in the Yaté district. The GR-NC1® continue as far as the Dumbéa dam and will enable the Parc de la Rivière Bleue to be traversed by foot. In its current configuration, the GR-NC1® is divided into three sections. At the end of each section, a structure enables you to set up a bivouac. You can therefore walk the GR-NC1®, during the day, as the departures are easily accessible.

You need JavaScript enabled to view it Member of "PASS Nature et Culture" The museum, housed in a building whose architecture is distinctly colonial, is located inside the walls of a merchant bank and was constructed in 1874. It would later be the site of the old town hall. It is situated opposite La Place des Cocotiers and its permanent exhibition is based on the ‘evolution' of Noumea. Visitors are taken back in time to the conception of the city in 1854, to its days as a penal colony, the foundations of New Caledonian society, the memoirs of seafarers of the Great War, then the American legend. It is the latter group which has inspired an exhibition on the participation of New Caledonian soldiers to this global conflict. An intricate historical garden also welcomes you at the gates to the museum. There you can discover the flower that bloomed throughout Noumea at beginning of last century and begin to understand the unspoken language of flowers. Every 3rd Wednesday of each month, the Museum's trust organise an event with a historical theme. These events take place in a different place each time. (Please see their website)
