With an approximate surface area of 91,000 hectares for 2,000 inhabitants, Boulouparis is one of New Caledonia’s biggest districts, however, its population density is low : around 2 inhabitants per square km. Its community is multiethnic and its main activities are agriculture and cultivating farms.
It is naturally set-up for these activities due to its low, jagged coast (which is suitable for aquafarming)
The venison, prawn and shrimp festival, which takes place there in September, is one of the most important events of the community’s life along with races at the racecourse.
