The only township located within the mountain range, Sarraméa is cool, green and historic. The adjacent valleys of Couli, Negropo and Moindou have always been a place of encounter and exchange between Melanesian coastal and mountain villages.
The coffee plantations established at the beginning of the century by settlers from the North of France have now been replaced by orchards and vegetable crops in an area which is ideal for walking and climbing.
